Folk Festival Concert. Friday 9th June
Top Floor Taivers, Jenn Butterworth & Laura-Beth Salter, Mike & Stef
Top Floor Taivers
Although based in Glasgow, Top Floor Taivers combine some of the finest talent from Scotland, England and Ireland. Claire Hastings (vocals and ukelele), Tina Jordan Rees (piano and vocals), Grainne Brady (fiddle and vocals), and Heather Downie (clarsach and vocals) launched their debut album 'A Delicate Game' at this year's Celtic Connections. The album which mixes traditional songs and original compositions with some well-chosen contemporary covers, has rightly been receiving rave reviews.
Jenn Butterworth and Laura-Beth Salter
Jenn and Laura-Beth have been active in the UK folk music scene for a number of years and are no strangers to the Arran Folk Festival having previously performed here in 2014. Hailing from Dumfries & Galloway, Jenn moved to Glasgow in 2000 and since then has been in high demand as a guitarist and singer. Laura-Beth is a mandolin player, originally from Lincolnshire, whose playing style includes a strong bluegrass/Americana influence. The pair, who have been performing together since late 2013, have developed such a strong musical bond that it is often hard to separate the two voices, the whole being so much more than the sum of the not so inconsiderable parts. Their debut album, 'Bound', was released in November last year to great acclaim.
Mike & Stef
Mike and Stef spent a couple of decades playing their distinctive and often original music to audiences all over Arran. If a village had a pub, Mike & Stef played there! (Sadly many of those pubs have since closed, although the boys refuse to accept responsibility!). Their overseas tours took them as far as Largs and Irvine, but Arran is where they will always belong and we are delighted to host their reunion at this year's Festival. Their blend of catchy tunes and good humour is sure to set the mood for a great evening's entertainment.
